How can I make this veg preserving bag myself, ideally using things around the house? I want my onions, cabbage and potatoes to last longer. Also how long would they be kept fresh in these bags??
Thanks

I do like these bags, its not possible to say how long things last as it really depends on how fresh it was to start with.
I think these ones are quite expensive as you can buy the potato and onion ones in poundland, I bought 5 and one of those wooden
hanging peg things. I strewed it to the back of my outside meter cupboard door and hung the bags, the potato and onion labels facing and turned the other around, then used a black permanent marker to write cabbage, parsnips and salad on the others, works well for me and I have used these for about two years now.Slimming World at target0 -
I've heard of people keeping onions and garlic fresh by hanging them in a pair of old tights!!
you put in one onion/bulb on the leg, then knot it, then put another one in.LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -

I have had the potato and the onion bags from Poundland and no complaints. They are lined with black fabric which keeps out the light."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Another vote for the poundland ones. My mam has about 6 and loves them.:)Death comes to us all. When he came to Mort, he offered him a job. MORT by Terry Pratchett.0

A few weeks ago, I bought one of these http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10151&catalogId=1500001201&langId=110&searchTerms=Curver+My+Style+-+medium+Nestable+Rattan+Basket+-+Dark+Brown&authToken= I found that keeping veg in bags and in the fridge caused the problem.
Mushrooms just have the film covering removed, and get put into the box in the carton.
It lets you see what you have, and also is an easily movable box if you want to clean under it.
Mine is situated in the corner by the oven/hob/prep area - it touches an outside wall and is not near any radiators. I find root veg is lasting much better if taken out the bag immediately.
The box is lined with kitchen roll to absorb moisture.0 -
I use a large freezer bag from Aldi. It has a zip and a foil lining. I have kept veg such as cauli, onions, cabbages, celery & leeks for weeks. I open it for a short time to help dry it out a bit or wipe the inside over with a paper towel.
I think it cost me about £2 or £3.
Veg keeps even longer in my fridge. I've had some organic pots in the fridge since before christmas.0 -

I buy mine from Poundland. Infact I only own one for potatoes and it's still going strong after a year.Dave Ramsey Fan[/COLOR]0
