Surprise CCJ!

Options
Hi Everyone,

My wife and I moved into my parents house 8 months ago to get out of debt and buy a house.

We have a reserve on a new build and were going to start the mortgage application next month. I was getting annoyed with Experian because it had been 5 week since my credit report had updated and I wanted it to reflect my new level of debt, 0! So I emailed them. A guy got back to me and said something like "it sometimes takes around 6 weeks and by the way you don't have 6 years of address added to your account, hint hint.

So when I added all my address I found I had a CCJ from January 2009. I move around a lot in my twenty's I had no idea about this until now.

So I have a few questions that I'd really appreciate anyone's help with.

Are we screwed? I already know the answer to this one but thought I'd ask anyway.

Whats the point of getting any kind of credit score ifs its not what lenders see? That's just more of a rant.

I've paid the CCJ but should I have paid it? If I had just left it on there would it have gone away in January? Since I've paid it is it now 6 year before it comes off my record?

How do credit checks work? Does a lender have to use your address just like I had to ad my address in order to get the full picture? So if I didn't give this address from 5 years ago would the CCJ not come up?

I seemed like the guy doing customer support could see pretty quickly that I had trouble and was kind enough to point it out in a round and about way.

Thanks for any help and clarification on how all this works.

Cheers

How much deposit do you have? What is the purchase price?

    How much is the CCJ?

    Hi

We have 15k deposit, we were going to use help to buy and the house was 194k.

The CCJ shows on my credit report as £985 however when I paid it it was £1035. I've heard it makes a different if it is under 1k

    Thanks

    Speak to a broker.

Do you have the certificate of satisfaction for the CCJ? Does it show as satisfied on the credit reports?

Get copies of Experian, Equifax and Call Credit and put them in front of a broker.

Any other issues with credit? Missed payments etc?

  • Thanks,

I've only just paid the CCJ yesterday and I have the conformation that I now need to send over to the court to get the certificate of satisfaction. I rang everyone along the way and it will show as paid on my credit report by around the 11th of April.

I had a missed payment on my credit card 13 months ago (that's what we were waiting for before applying) I also had missed payments from a gas bill (again from an address I hadn't added) but after speaking with them today they are going to remove it completely in 10 days. So really its just the CCJ now.

    Thanks for you help

the ccj will drop off your report in jan 2015. paying it doesnt change that.

think a company checking your file would see anything the cra holds at all linked adresses they have for you. so think this would now show whether you list that address or not

I have 137 linked address in my Experian report. Would lenders only search on address that show up this list and are less than 6 years old? Or if I lived some were 7 years ago but had something unpaid from that address that did't go to court until 5 years ago would that come up? Should I be checking address over 6 years old anyway?

  • Yeah just the same 8 address over the past 10 years from lots of different companies keeping tabs. I've not lived at 137 different address :)

I gathered that lol, it still seemed high to me anyway but that's because I don't have many myself.
