advice needed regarding debt collection

Had a debt collector at door will be coming back on Monday as was un able to speak to them the night. Debt is for a catalogue, think about year and half old. What is the minimum amount that I would be able to offer them as already struggling with money as it is and really can't afford to much back a month. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi
Can I ask how much the Total Debt is? They may be willing to receive a very small amount or a token payment depending on size of outstanding balance.
(Debt Jan 2014 LBM £34,000) Current 2016 "Problems" as follows:

    C Cards 1,2,3,4 WAS £18,333 NOW£0 :j...Overdraft WAS £2700 NOW£0 :j
    Secured Loan
    WAS £4113 NOW£0:j.......Loan WAS £8864 NOW £6,000

    DEBT TODAY = £6,000
    (£28,000 PAID OFF SO FAR!)

Not sure maybe about £2000. Don't have money to offer them like some sort of lump sum, so going to have to be a monthly payment. Just managing to pay bills as it is. Don't have much money left over. Thanks

    Who's the catalogue/collector?

Tell them you will only deal in writing and then write the same to the account owners. You don't have to talk to them.

They call to try and pressure you to pay or pay more than you can.

As said above you don't need to deal with them at the door (they could be anybody)! As they are not proper certified court bailiffs (and it doesn't sound like they are) then just tell them you'll deal with it in writing.
Decide how much you can afford to pay and put your offer in writing - even if it's 5 pounds a month, pay what you can.

If you are struggling with this debt and other debts have you considered getting a debt management plan arranged? I'm sure others will agree with me but it is the best thing I every did- speak to payplan or step change- face up to your debts and get back on track- it is such a relief when u start paying off ur debts- it's a long slog but so worth it and u find u actual still have money to live on- I've paid over 10k off so far and have 1 year left and will then be debt free :-) s

Sit down and do a statement of affairs- look to see where u can make savings or post on here and we will help you through it- u r not on ur own
