Hi- I think I know the answer is no way before I even ask by they let's go...

To cut a long story short I have been in a dmp since 2009 with payplan- my rbs current account has been sold on- I have no idea who to- normally don't pay attention as never use- just paying £35 a month via payplan

My mum passed away in august- only found out in the June she had terminal cancer- anyway it's my dad's bday in April and he wanted me and my sister to be with him so he put money in my bank account to pay for the flight- trouble is he somehow- god knows where from- found my old rbs account details- put money in there and i can't access it !!!! Do u think I can get my hands on this money or is it a gonna??? I fear the latter

me and my oh had a loan with years ago which we defaulted on in 2008. we followed the usual advice and opened a bank account with another bank for bills and salary. rbs took us to court. i don't think we had a ccj against us for it or anything as we agreed to pay a little bit more than the judge stated (now paid off)

for months and months after changing our bank details with work, my salary went in to the new bank with no problems. however, one month the wages dept in work put my salary into my rbs account with my old details.

i went into the branch at lunchtime and told them the situation and they let me withdraw it.

i'd try your luck tomorrow and go into a branch if you can with id and see if they let you withdraw it. i know they definatley did with me. i would say that if you have an agreement to pay a certain amount and they have accepted it then they shouldn't keep it to put towards your debt to them. i mean it could be all you have to live on for all they know or mortgage money or anything.

    hope you get on ok.

sorry, just read that rbs sold it on.....does that mean they've closed the account?? if they have, i think after a few days, the money will bounce back into your dad's account.

No it's still an open bank account- I have a savings acc also with rbs which I forgot about and about 5 months ago I went into the bank and said I wanted to withdraw from my savings -only £300 quid or so but money is money and I could only remember my old account details- they found that acc and told me that it was still active- guess I will try and call rbs and see if they can do anything

Yeah rbs let me withdraw from my savings but my savings acc isn't part of my dmp or been sold on

Anyway I have good news- after several calls to rbs call centre I was able to go to a nominated branch who they told I was going to and got an encashment for £500- really didn't think I was gonna get the money babka but I have :-)

oh that's good news! with the £300 savings account money; if they were after any money they could get their hands on, they could have taken it from your savings account it's called off-setting or something i think. but it must be because you have an arrangement with them they've let you get access to the £500. i think legally they could have taken it, if you haven't been to court and had anything set down by a judge, but it's probably not worth their time and bad publicity! as i said, they let me take my wages out that time. anyway bet you're relieved....phew x

  • Yes I think I have been extremely lucky- yeah I believe if u have accounts with same banks they can legally use that to pay off other debts.

I think as I have paid off 2/3's of the debt and have been making regular payments since 2009 then it might have counted in my favour-

Have booked my flights home for my dad's bday- both excited and sad at same time as all the firsts without mum are tough

Just shows through that banks can and will be helpful :-) chuffed is not the word- have a fab weekend all and keep chipping away at these debts- I have 1 year left until I am finally debt free- cannot wait!!!
