Mileage for voluntary work

Are there any tax implications in claiming expenses for volunteering work while on JSA? I am going to start as a volunteer driver for charity hospital to home and social visits and the mileage allowance is 45p. There is no profit in it for me taking wear and tear into account, but is it counted as income?

Expenses don't count as income unless its claimed from a job you get paid from i think

There are no tax implications for being paid upto 45p/mile expenses. Whether its counted as income for benefit purposes I dont know.0

for the sake of accuracy HMRC have specific rules for volunteer drivers which you ought to read
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/mileage/volunteer-drivers.htm
however, in a nutshell at 45ppm you are not making a profit so have no tax liability (provided you do less than 10,000 per year of course)0
