American plus size clothing websites

Options
Hi...

Has anyone ever ordered anything from the American websites Torrid.com or onestopplus.com?? They sell plus size ladies clothes.

I've seen a few things on them I like, but cannot seem to get a price for the shipping/postage and I don't want to be hit with a large charge.

Torrid ship to the UK. After picking what you want, when you enter your personal details delivery is added. I'll warn you though, shipping is expensive.

I tested out the buying process using made up details. My top which cost $44.50 had a $43.65 delivery charge. VAT will be charged on the total price including shipping. After converting all the figures to Pounds I got a total of £53.45. So not cheap.

I wouldn't trust Torrid anyway. Their SSL encryption was broken when I entered my personal details which means the site isn't secure. They also wanted my date of birth for some strange reason.

One Stop Plus also deliver to the UK. Once again they'll let you know how much you'll have to pay when you enter your address.

It's a better shopping experience with these people. The connection has been correctly encrypted, prices are converted to Pounds and VAT is included. They also don't charge a fortune for shipping.

The top that I chose at random was $21.99, shipping was $9.03 and VAT $4.67 totalling $35.69. They then converted this to £22.16.

I think you'll still be charged import duty and VAT + admin fee on any US order that is over about £19 INCL postage!
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
  • Taking Shape do some lovely clothes if the p&p works out too expensive for torrid x
when life gives you lemons, stick them in your top & pretend you have pointy boobs.

Yes, I've been stung for this in the past. I order about £100-worth of clothes from the States and ended up with nearly half as much again in tac and handling charges. Fair enough, it has to be paid but it just makes it not really worth bothering.
