Hi all, my wife and I are first time buyers and will shortly be applying for a joint mortgage. We have a 10% deposit and joint income of 68,000. However, my wife is American and has been in the country on indefinite leave to remain for the last few years and although I am on the electoral roll, she obviously is not. I want to ensure this doesn't hinder our chances of being offered a mortgage.
She does have a credit card with hsbc and we also have a joint account and a savings account with hsbc. We are joint tennants on the property we are currently renting and have been for the past 4 years.
Can anyone help/reassure?!
Many thanks

It may dent your credit scoring a little with some lenders, but by no means is it a problem in itself.I am a Mortgage Broker

Thanks for the quick reply. We have tried to build credit for her but are obviously mindful if the risks that this can cause and so have limited her exposure to 1 card. Plus her phone e.t.c. She has tried to sign upto Equifax, however because she doesn't have the necessary address history in England, it is unable to complete her registration. We are also debt free having spent the last few years paying off our wedding and her temp visas e.t.c.0
