My father passed away last year and his bank are demanding payment from his estate of £8500-00 for credit card bills he ran up prior to his bankruptcy in 2005. I am finding it impossible to speak to anybody to ascertain whether these debts are now statute barred and the normal insolvency services are giving me the cold shoulder. If I paid the debt it would leave my surviving mother desperately short of money. Can anybody suggest a solution or at least give me some hope.

If he ran them up prior to his bankruptcy, then they are covered by that and his bank can get lost.
Do you have any details of the bankruptcy?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi,
Don't pay and make a formal complaint to the bank that such debts were included in a prior BR and therefore not recoverable.
If the persist, complain to the Financial Ombudsman, But keep us informed at each step.

If you have the date of BR and the name he went BR under can you search the London Gazette and find the posting of the announcement of BR, print this off or send the Bank the link, then tell them to go swivel.every time I manage to get one more breath into this body, I will sing a song of thanks to you my brothers, my sisters, my friends, may your sleep be peaceful, and angels sing sweetly in your ears.0

This should give you written proof of the bankruptcy.
