Denture implants - again..

So I have now been quoted well over £30,000 :eek:to have top and bottom 'all on four 'implants - ie implants and fixed dentures done in one day. I really want to have this treatment as I am so unhappy with my dentures but so much money! I have family in Madrid so have been looking into having this done in Spain - seems I could have the same treatment for a third of the cost. Has anyone had this done in Spain? I go there a few times a year so follow up treatment wouldn't be a problem.

what if anything goes wrong and they don't want to take responsibility? Look and see whether they are insured for this. After the treatment no dentist in the uk will touch you as they become liable as soon as they touch the work.
In the event of you having this treatment done in the Uk at least you have the gdc and the dentist insurance to back you up!
Also, the all-on-4 can be done cheaper, in Kent, where I live, you can get in for £25k for both jaws0 -
Actually if you just want implant retained dentures you are looking at around £6000 for top and bottom full dentures. What you are describing sounds not like dentures but a chrome and porcelain bridge upper and lower which is less like dentures and more like your own teeth but requires meticulous care, maintainance and regular visits.
Implant retained dentures are like conventional plastic dentures which are held firmly in place by the implants but are taken in and out to clean and are cheaper and easier to maintain and replace. They are a good "budget" option for those who struggle to keep dentures in.
I would say to anyone having this sort of treatment to have it done close to home. Things can and do go wrong, need repairing, replacing and maintaining and no one in the UK will touch someone else's work. Bear in mind any guarantees also stipulate you have to attend regular check up and hygiene appointments at the placing clinic and no insurance will cover work done by a dentist unless damaged by accident.0 -
Thanks Brook2jack but I have been told that I am not suitable for the cheaper version - which, I might add, would still have cost me over £12000!!! Scotland must be especially expensive? I would have really preferred the cheaper option but was told I had too much bone loss..does this seem right to you?0

My husband and brother both had a lot of work done in Turkey. First class treatment and only hundreds each, not thousands. Top of the range equipment used.travelover0

Ha ha true! I'm sure that you can possibly find a good reputable dentist who can do the work for you for less than that though.
Also it is worth it getting a second opinion, as it may be that you were deemed unsuitable for the cheaper option just to get you to spend more. Shop around in your area or expand your area a bit more.
I would certainly not recommend you going abroad for the reasons explained in my previous post. People don't tend to think what may happen after the surgery hence why going abroad for treatment. I work in a dentist surgery that offers All on 4 and I know that a few visits are necessary to complete the treatment, not just the initial consultation and the treatment day. You need to see the dentist for stitches removal 10-14 days after the surgery, then 3 months on you need to be seen for impressions for the final bridge(the one you get on the day is only temporary) then for fitting the bridge a couple of weeks after and you may need to come for adjustments inbetween if necessary. Hope this makes sense.0 -
Have you tried them: http://www.changingfacesdentures.co.uk/dental-implants/all-on-4-implants.html
They seem to have clinics dotted around the country, cannot see any in Scotland but maybe there is one closer to you, they offer free consultations. Good luck whatever you decide0 -
Implants are not something you should buy on price.
You should find a practice with a dental surgeon who's experience you trust. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
