My trusty K-Swiss tubes are going home, the tubes at the ball of each foot are coming of due to side to side nature of many exercises. I have been told that running shoes are not the best thing for side to side stuff and that tennis shoes may be better for my knees.
Anyone got any suggestions?

I would have thought a good pair of cross-trainers would do the trick?

I use Yonex Badminton shoes for multi-court work. Cushioned in all the right places and have a solid sole which grips well. I even use them in circuits and other activities where I don't need the flexibility of sole.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

As HBS said, any cross training shoes would be good. Something with flexible soles - Nike and Reebok both make some good ones - or how about Vibrams. To be honest, I wouldn't use K-Swiss tubes in a gym. They're better suited to running.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
I ended up getting a pair of low top basketball shoes with carbon fibre side support and techy shock absorbing, I will see how I get on with them.
I already have a pair of addidas X-trainers I use for pump and a pair of chucks for proper weights and kettlebells. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Most of the guys in our power-lifting and strength group use Converse or Vbrams or even go barefoot. The odd one has pro squat shoes but then they use them for competing.
What are the basketball shoes you got? Are they a form of Converse?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
No they are Ball'N and price was the breaker - I read a couple of reviews. They are also purple patent which I liked even though it might not be anyone else's tastes. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Oh kewl, hadn't heard of them before. They look ideal for combat though when you consider the speed and constant switch backs basketball players do on court. Let us know how you get on with them.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

Thats right, running shoes arent the best for side to side stuff.
I know a lot of people who wear zigtech trainers. Reebok make them.
They can be quite pricey but you can often get them for a decent price on ebay.
Ive also worn new balance cross trainers in the past with no problems.
I know people who wear vibrams in the gym, but personally, I wouldnt wear them to a class, mainly because you can also be at risk of some un co-ordinated person stamping on your foot and theres not a lot of support in vibrams
Zigs are also supposed to be good for people who suffer from shin splints, they are technically running shoes I believe but are fine for lateral movement as well, I know lots of Zumba instructors who swear by them and theres a lot of lateral movement in your average zumba class.0 -
Well did a metafit last night and they were ideal. Planks, Mogul Jumps skaters, burpees, floor to sky jumps, 2 step dash, oblique burpees (was told mine were excellent), pommel jumps, squat thrusts, hot hands sprints on the spot and in out press ups.
I think that is most kinds of movemnt in there somehwere.
