Giving previous salary info on application forms

This question is annoying mainly because I make up almost half of my £ by O/T and 2nd job so my current 'salary' for my main employment is not really relevant. I do write it down though.0

Equality forms are needed and used for big employers especially. Used as defence in discrimination claims. Used to get diversity awards. Helps guide their recruitment strategy. There is a lot of evidence that diversity increases productivity etc
I totally disagree when you say equality forms are needed, I can just imagine an HR dept being told we need more Asians to get our numbers up which then immediately disadvantages Blacks and Caucasians when they send in their application. I would also consider this to be discrimination and not promoting equality.0 -
Can;t really see why people are so defensive about this question.
If your current salary is quite low then why should you expect your new salary to be low? If it's high, then why wouldn;t you be prepared to take a drop in salary, for the right job? You wouldn;t be applying for the job if you didn't want it (well, if you are currently in work anyway).
Any employer living in the real world would know this.
It may be useful for an employer to gauge how many responsibilities you had in your previous job. I would have thought that it is quite a minor consideration used by recruiters though in determining their shortlist (and in particualar their ultimate decision on how to should get the job after all the interviews are completed).
Mind you, I often have trouble remembering what my pay rates were going back several years and I don;t still have any payslips going back years. So the figures I give are really no more than educated guesses.0
