  • Just to update, I made a mixed raita with the unopened Tesco Value Yogurt last night, date 24th February. It was fine and I'm still here :)

Just made risotto for my work lunches using rice dated May 2013.

Noticed last night that bottle of lea & perrins is Dec 2010 but tastes fine. Have another unopened bottle with same date!
  • Not as ancient as the BBQ sauce I posted earlier in the thread but, yesterday, we used the Cranberry Sauce which has been open in the fridge since Xmas (it says once opened use within 28 days) and when I opened it at Xmas it was already way past it's sell by date of 2012! It tasted fine!

After reading this thread, I ate two tesco yogurts best before dates 02 Feb, taste delish
  • If you have basmati rice stored in a cool dry place, totally ignore any 'best before' dates. It improves with age, and many south Asian cooks keep it for at least two years to get the best fragrance and flavour from it!

And there was me feeling really bad sending my kids off to school with chocolate mousses that were a week out of date.

They both seem fine. My youngest even had the last one for her pudding.

  • dried soya chunks (april 2012), packet stir fry sauce mix (sept 2013), rice (god knows). Nice stir fry for tea with some peppers and mushrooms.

I'm beginning to wonder if there is anything actually in date in my kitchen!

On Sunday (23 March) my OH had natural yoghurt with a use by date of some time in December 2013. He added lemon curd and sultanas (both in advance of their BBE date) and said it was good.

  • It not the water that goes "off", it's the plastic it's bottled in. According to the boffins, the plastic starts to break down and can leach into the water.
That is why I decant all of my water into glass wine bottles (sterilised of course) well I have to have some excuse for drinking all of that wine :rotfl::rotfl:
