Creating a romantic rustic atmosphere in small dowdy room

Hi all,

Any ideas of how I can do this {on a budget without it looking cheap} we're getting married in autumn, partly because I love the warm colour schemes and we're having a orangey brown burgundy theme. I have thought about candles, but have you any other ideas what we can do?

The room is cream and brown and the carpet is like a dark beige with a gigantic yellowy orange design in the middle. There is patio doors along the right side which looks out onto the gardens and lake, so not sure what the lighting will be doing in October.

Thanks in advance x

    Hi,

Yes I've gone on pinterest and found lots of ideas, however to suit our small room is proving difficult and I'm not the kind of person who can imagine what something would look like without seeing it there and then.

Table decorations to be in (clean) jam jars & ideally reasonably freshly picked from the hedgerows. Charming, rustic & devoutly MSE!

    - tea lights in jam jars on the tables, add a bit of lace or ribbon around the jar for effect
    - or attach twigs around the side of the jars (see here: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/459226493224310329/)
    - apples as favours
    - pumpkins and / or apples as centrepieces- you could even carve a pumpkin and place lights in it for a distinctive effect!
    - a cheap floral centrepieces is gypsophilia (baby's breath) in a glass jar (e.g. dominos pasta sauce family jar!) with lace tied round the jar
    - bunting. You can buy this for cheap from ebay or if you are a crafter DIY it yourself with fabric + sewing machine.

Google or search on Pinterest: "Fall wedding decorations" and "fall wedding centrepieces" or "thanksgiving centrepiece" and there are loads of ideas.

Thank you for all your suggestions, I'm not very good with describing what I'd like, twigs is a little too rustic for me, I was thinking of something similar to this....

not wishing to put a spanner in the works....but have you checked that your venue will allow tea lights or candles...lots dont because of fire regulations.

Whilst lots of the suspended lanterns look enchanting they really dont mix well with children or indeed anyone else that may brush past them and knock one down

Probably I'm stating the obvious but its worth considering whos going to be attending.

Are fir cones too rustic for you...they can look very autumnal ...ivy is quite a good filler as well.

    Hi,

Yes one of the first questions I asked what about candles and as long as candles aren't put on an exposed surface they're allowed. As for the lanterns they aren't suspended they are on the floor/table.

You could always use electric candles anyway; they're very cheap from ebay and if they're in a holder so you don't see the whole candle they don't look too bad :)
  • Hi

Try to use LED candles where possible for the same reasons listed above.

Our aisle is going to be lined with cream lanterns and wooden heart pew ends. The aisle will have a hessian runner which will give it a rustic feel too.

Try to google things like hessian weddings etc, its a cheap material and looks great x
