In search for a Barn/alternative wedding venue!

Hi,
We are searching for a wedding venue to hire in the South west-south wales area in March/April '15. For a day-time number about 90 and evening approx 120.

We dont have a huge budget so are looking for any alternative locations such as barns/chapels/churches/ houses/ fields/anything querky for the evening reception+/- ceremony.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated!!

Many thanks
Andy and Laura

We're having our wedding reception at Alice Park in Bath - it's a community park, and the cafe/bar there are going to put up marquees for us - we'll be the fifth wedding they've done by that point, and I cant attest that the prices are VERY reasonable, and the manager is super helpful. PM me if you want further details
Officially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A

I had to find something similar with outside space recently.
If you only wanted it for the reception and don't need it to be wedding licenced it's best to avoid dedicated wedding venues as they really hike the price up and often want you to book a whole day package although some of them have hire packages for non-wedding events/celebrations which can work out cheaper - especially if they will 'dry hire' the venue space only.

    The things we tried were:

Village Halls - some have land/sports fields attached - usually very cheap to hire and most will let you provide your own food and occasionally alcohol - big savings!
http://hall-for-hire.co.uk/venues/ has a comprehensive list - your local council website may also have details or just search "village or parish hall [your county]"
This was the option we went for in the end because of the freedom to do what we wanted and provide our own food/drink.

Large Holiday homes with gardens - often as cheap or cheaper to hire one of these for the whole weekend than a dedicated venue for one day - need owners permission to party there tho :) - can also be used as the 'wedding night hotel' or to put guests up. I found www.ownersdirect.co.uk was a good website for this but there are plenty of others.

Campsites - some have social clubs which you can hire

The National Trust have quite a few barns though most want you to do a 'package'

Search "hire barn [your county]" and sift through all the expensive ones - there's always a little gem in there somewhere :)

just drive around looking for likely spaces & contact local farmers/landowners
Don’t try to keep up with the Jones’s. They are broke!
  • We wanted to have a beach wedding as we felt it was comparatively cheaper, and planned for months to get it done. But unfortunately the weather acted crazy and had to settle for Le Jardin wedding banquet hall in Toronto. But we did not have to pay a huge amount of money for that though.

Are there any Youth Hostels that do wedding receptions in your neck of the woods?
