hi guys,
well ive just got the student loan deferment pack from Erudio (who ever they are. I never signed anything with *them*)
and i notice on the back they are now reporting student loans as deferred loans to credit agencies.
So whats the likely hood of this impcating things int he future?
Im sure the point of the student loans was that it didnt appear on your credit file?
Generally very peeved that the rug has been pulled out from under us on yet another privatisation.

Thanks everyone
dave

Sorry I can't answer with regard to Erudio however, as far as I'm aware, student loans come out after tax anyway.

The point of student loans was to help people through Uni on the basis that the taxpayer would be repaid.

All student loans are repaid from after tax income.

Erudio recently took over all the older student loan book which was under the mortgage style scheme that was remaining in Student Loans Company's hands.

Depends what loan you have as Pre 1998 were paid back over a 5 year period and students/borrowers were allowed to defer if your salary was below the threshold.

These Pre-1998 loans were governed by the consumer credit act and not the education act so they can be reported on credit files. Student Loans Company did not bother due to the amount of time and effort involved.

For deferement, the gross salary figure is used to calculate if you were eligible to defer payment for 12 months.
