Does being a home owner change you mentally?

I have been a renter all my adult life and up till last week was keen on prices dropping. Anyway since putting in an offer on a house I have set back and day dreamed about owning a home. Suddenly I feel more protective over house prices and want them to go up/at last stay level. I feel this would change if the house I want feel through. Am I becoming selfish? Does becoming a home owner change you?

Don't care what my house is worth day to day. No intention of moving. Probably retire here and die here........0

Studies have shown it makes you 32% less likely to post drivel on Internet forums and 64% more likely to own a pet rabbit.0

What Thrugelmir said.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I'd pay you £500,000 if you could tell me where I was going to die, it would be worth that much because I wouldn't go there.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
I'm currently in the process of buying my first house and after 7 years of renting am just happy to be finally doing this! I'm not buying a house to make money on it, but to make a home.
Obviously I don't want the prices to go down and screw us over, but I'm not thinking about if/when we sell this house. If we do make money on it then that's a bonus but if not then I guess it will mean whatever we buy next will be cheaper too.
But I guess my view might change once we actually are in!0 -

My immediate family has a consistent history of dying in their sleep as a result of a heart attack. At a ripe old age I should add.0 -
Being a homeowner does lead to random bouts of groin thrusting and shouting at the hapless yoof.0

Owning a property as opposed to renting gives a sense of security in so far as not being under the shadow of having to move out because the landlord doesn't want to extend your rental.
Ok owning a place is not really completely yours until the final mortage payment has been made, however you are more in control of your destiny in the fact that if you got repossessed it would be because you haven't kept up the payments and if that has happened because of no fault of your known a lender would probably try to help you before it got to that stage.
On the financial front owning a property could be an investment if you intend to move around for a while, whereas if you plan to stay put it least the value would eventually end up helping someone else you choose to leave it too.
There is no clear answer really...some peoples lifestyle would be suited to renting others not.0 -
Have been a homeowner for the past couple if weeks, mentally it has changed me. To be honest in a nutshell, it has made me more selfish. But I don't feel guilty about this, because I know it's human nature that those who currently feel hard done by regarding house prices wouldn't give two hoots about me if the boot was on the other foot.0
