stopped paying CCCS - what happens?

Hi there

I had a DMP with CCCS (or whatever they are called these days) and it has been stopped as i missed payments due to financial issues in my present country. I live outside of the country and have done for a few years. I am scared to contact anyone as I am worried about what will happen. I can't restart the payments yet but hope to in the near future.

What will happen if i live in another country and i continue to not make payments?

That is an interesting question and one Stepchange (Formely CCCS) would be the best people to answer.

Financial situations change and the best thing you can do is to contact Stepchange. Do not worry about finances changing, they do for all - the best thing that they do is offer impartial advice.

You can still be pursued for UK debts overseas - it depends on the jurisdiction you are in.
  • It's true that you can be pursued for debt even if you live overseas; although as I've stated before, the debt collectors still have to know what country you're living in.

Depends how much you owe as well, most you will get are letters, if they know your address, I very much doubt you will be physically pursued abroad, unless you owe a sum equivalent to the national debt I would not worry about a knock on the door !!
