Cross-country student loan query

I don't *think* this one has been answered here - my apologies if it has!

I have three student loans (1993, 1995, 1996) from my time at Bradford University. I gather that these should expire in 2021 based on 25 years from the date of the *last*? That is, they won't expire one at a time from 2018-2021? I'm currently not paying these off as I'm earning way below the threshold and always have.

Also, I have another loan from Scotland (2009 for my PGDE) which I gather expires in 35 years from date of graduation. I *am* paying this one of as I have to, even though I'm only part-time. It comes out of my pay cheque. Boo!

I just want to confirm that these two loans accounts would be completely separate? That is, the Scottish one will not prevent the English ones expiring in 2021? If I'm correct then they're from two separate loans organisations so should have no bearing on each other?

Thanks :)

I would encourage everyone not to get student because you might not realise now but it actually is a burden. I owed £16 when i left uni and 7 years later I still have about 13k left to pay off. You rather get a grant which you don't need to pay back.

Of course people would rather have grants than student loans :D However, there are too many people going to university to support free tertiary education for all.

I took out a student loan which I am repaying but I see it as an investment in my career. I wouldn't have the job I have now if I hadn't been to university and I it's almost certain I wouldn't be earning the money I am . I chose my university course with a view to getting a decent job at the end of it.

I agree, and am very grateful that I got a grant for living expenses, and had my tuition paid for. Back then, though, only 10% of school leavers went to university, so it was more affordable for the government.

I'd possibly favour knocking the numbers back down and making it free again.
