Camping Capsule Wardrobe

Well we went and bought a massive tent and are hoping to spend the summer camping in the UK. We will be going for a couple of days at a time and I would like to have a capsule wardrobe to take with me :D In day to day life I wear mainly dresses so I don't have a ready made selection of clothes to take camping ;)

What would you pack to cater for all UK weather possibilities and midges

Capsule wardrobe? You're going camping for a couple of days, not a week at the Ritz.

Jeans, fleece and a micro mini in case the weather turns hot.

Don't forget wellies, waterproof jacket (and possibly trousers) as it's horrible trying to dry sodden clothes in a tent. Otherwise I'd go for layers, so as many vest tops as the number of days you're going for, plus a pair of jeans and fleece (and warm socks for the evenings).

I say rethink your ideas of camping.

    Jeans/shorts/t shirts/fleece/wellies/waterproofs

    that should do it
  • Jeans are big, heavy and when they get wet they take ages to dry. I would take a pair of specialist outdoor long trousers, maybe the kind that can be zipped off/rolled up to make shorts or 3/4 length trousers. You can wear leggings underneath if it gets cold. You can also sleep in the leggings. A skirt will be ok if it's warm enough.

Thin strappy tops, thin long sleeve top or cardi, warmer jumper/fleece, waterproof shell. Layer as appropriate.

Leggings with layered tops over this. Starting with vest/tshirt cardigan or jumper ( as others have said) The girl said she was camping not going to out Mongolia. If your not sure no point in going out buying specialist trousers etc.

I have hiked in China and Peru and never bought specialist trousers/ clothing expect a very warm fleece and jacket & sleeping bag. I survived very well. Therefore I doubt you will need specialist clothing here. As long as you have items to layer so you can add or take away you'll be fine and a pair of wellies.. You'll be grand.

  • By "specialist" I simply meant clothes made for outdoor activities: lightweight, synthetic fabric that dries quickly (this is England, sooner or later you will get rained on). Doesn't mean it has to be expensive.

However, I do agree that you probably shouldn't buy unless you know what you want. Maybe go camping once or twice and then look at buying something fit for purpose.

Agree avoid jeans for all those reasons, wet jeans are miserable to wear and difficult to dry. Wet jeans can lead to hypothermia.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

We camp regularly but, after reading some of the posts on here, I'm beginning to think that we must be doing it wrong. I can't remember the last time I got my clothes soaked through and I haven't got close to dying of hypothermia.

The OP is intending to spend a couple of days away in the summer in a nylon bungalow, not climb the north face of the Eiger.

The only things I make sure of other than what I'd normally pack (and I take jeans I wear jeans all the time) is that I've got a jumper/fleece and crocs/flip floors for chucking on on what's usually a long walk to the toilet block when I need a p in the middle of the night
