Newbie - Halifax mortgage overpayment

Hi
I have just become a home owner :j
I have my mortgage with Halifax - they have sent a letter stating the first payment etc etc.
How do i do the over payment without calling them or plodding into the bank?
is there an online banking way?
thanx

  • Congratulations on geeting your first house.

You can overpay by sending an online money transfer from your account to theirs, using your roll number as the reference. However you will need to phone them for the details of where to send the money initially and they you can send the money as often as you would like.

Alternatively if you want to make a regular overpayment you can phone them and ask them to alter your direct debit so that you pay more.

I have a standing order, which I originally set up in branch, to make an additional payment every month.

If I want to pay more I just amend the details. If you want to just make occasional payments you could set the payment frequency to annually, with the next payment on 31/12/2200 for example, and just alter the date next time you want to make a payment.

You can search for "Halifax Mortgages" when setting up a new payment from your Halifax account (If you have one).

I would put through a small about of a couple of pounds first.
