OK forst things first. You must prioritise your payments. Mortgage, council tax and food are the top of the list.

    Next comes electricity and gas.

Once all those are paid the rest will have to make do with whats left. Do not feel pressured to pay credit cards etc first.

The 2 obvious high ones for me are electricity and food. Are you in arrears with the leccy at all or have a fear of the dark?:p

As for food. It's not uncommon for people to feed themselves for £50 a month. Personally I don't think I could do it but you could halve it. Check out the oldstyle board for the hints, tips, and tricks.

Also start yourself a spending diary. Everyday note down what you have spent and on what. At the end of the month you can catergorise things and it gives you a great insight into where the 'spare' money goes each month. :)

Oh and you forgot to include your pic by the way! ;)

First thing is Council Tax - if you are the only adult then you can get this reduced by 25%

Your Electric seems very high - have you looked around for this?

Food can most certainly be brought down, I spend this on a family of 4, try the OS board for from scratch recipes :)

:oam newly single hadnt even thought about the council tax!!

leccy is in arrears of bout £250 and Im not afraid of the dark but quite like the luxury of the leccy. It is quite high but have no gas bill as is storage heating.

I think my food bill can be worked on, will start a spending diary and see if can get it down to £75, will check out those recipes!!

Thanks for the welcome is really reassuring to get non judgmental advice.

Look, I flirt with anyone. I don't have any prejudices. If you're female, you're fair game. If you're male, you go to the reserves list. :p

I think that the council will backdate any rebate too so make that your no 1 job in the morning :)

What about extra work? 82ASK, AQA or the, ahem, saucy texting :o - all done from your PC :)

I'm amazed at what I can cook now and what I spend on shopping - I have actually become a little anal (steady SS) with my shopping list and planner but all this from a gal who has set fire to spaghetti - I kid you not ;)

I dont drink so I cant advise you there but I did stop smoking 7 months ago, all I can say is that it gets easier but you have to really want to stop - I am currently trying to lose the weight I gained by stopping :rotfl:

This is going to sound really daft but what is 82ASK and AQA?

I know that your not kidding about the spaghetti as have seen this rare occurrence take place in my own kitchen, no idea how it happened:p
