Step stool

I would like a stool on which I can sit at worktop level, in the kitchen. I'm only 5' 2" and have spine problems, so I'd need steps (which would also be useful to reach into wall cupboards) for easy access.
Online, I've found photos of padded seats with backrests and steps, but they are retro (1960s). There are some on Ebay, but they look rather tatty and others, sold new, are from the USA.
Does anyone know of a British manufacturer ?
If not, do people find the steps, listed as stool/steps , comfortable enough as a seat ?

I think you wouldn't find the metal step stools at all suitable for sitting on, especially as most of them have a restricted width where the top handrail goes across.
You might be as well to look for 2 different items if you didn't want to buy one of the retro type ones (which can be quite heavy as I found as a tatty one was left in my home by the previous owner when I moved in).
For sitting comfortably, probably a perching stool would be best, perhaps something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RUSSELL-HOBBS-RHM1709-17-LITRE-SILVER-MANUAL-MICROWAVE-/201052271516?pt=UK_HGKitchen_SmallApp_RL&hash=item2ecfa6339c
And for reaching into cupboards, something like this. I've recently bought one & it's great. I couldn't quite reach into my wall cupboards before deciding to give one of these a try. It's lightweight & foldable, so takes up minimal space. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310696348843?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
