Bank Accounts after Bankruptcy

We opened a Barclays account before we filed for bankruptcy, however we spoke to both our existing Banks to see what the situation would be.
I was with First Direct, and they couldn’t have whipped that account away from me any faster! I still had some money left in it and they still closed it! Obviously no intention of allowing people like me to have an account.
However we also spoke to the Nationwide and they couldn’t have been more lovely, they are happy to retain accounts for Bankrupts, but will not open a new one. So we have managed to keep that account, with all the facilities, we just asked them to remove the Overdraft.
So if anyone has a Nationwide account and needs to go bankrupt, please do speak to them as you may be as pleased with their helpfulness as we were.

Nationwide used to be the go to place for a BR proof account. Who I had mine with, and still have it.
Maybe they had changed heart again, although I will not hold my breath.
Now the BR is not on my file they have just offered to upgrade me to a proper current account, although to be honest for me there is not much difference to be had.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Yorkshire Bank told me they were happy for me to keep my account post BR then closed it without notice leaving me stranded at a petrol station after just filling my car up.
Just a word of warning0 -
Right, a week after discharge and I've activated my online Barclays banking, and mobile banking too. (these are accounts I opened whilst undischarged)
I've logged in to both - but I haven't presented them with a letter of discharge or anything similar. Just wondering now if they'll take them away and make me walk up there with the letter, or whether they'll be content with the fact I'm now discharged and leave them running.
I've also bought my first premium bonds today (Not allowed to have these whilst undischarged) with my SA tax money, which was sitting in a very, very, very low interest NS&I savings account (opened whilst undischarged)AD March 2014

Oh what a nightmare.
I got used to dealing with cash and not using my debit card over the least year. Once you don't have any other cards to fall back on when occasions like this crop up, it makes you lose your confidence in debit cards a little.
hope this gets sorted for you very quickly.AD March 2014
