The spice paste lists 4.7g of salt which is about 1.88g of sodium.
Not such a huge rise.
But from the flash on the earlier jar it seems it is the customer who has spoken - they said take your 50% lesser recipe and give us back our original taste.
(ETA: and it is still about 25% less than the older one (that is, cut by 50%, increase by 50% is 75% of original, not 100%).)0 -

Blaming the jar is a poor excuse, if salt is your concern, vote with your feet and learn to cook from scratch. Hundreds of millions of Indians do every day, after all.
I find all jars of curry/pasta/casserole sauces too salty anyway for my taste. I make my own too, no salt added at all. I find tinned soup too salty too. I think all the tomato based pasta sauces taste the same !0 -

Yes lots of people make their own curry every day but not everyone has the skill or desire to cook from scratch. A lot of home made curries are also extremely high in salt and fat (those being things that make it tasty). Just because something is made from scratch doesn't make it miraculously healthy.
I cook virtually everything from scratch btw - curry is the exception.
Try the hairy bikers curry book. So easy, very little salt, minimal fat It's the spices that are doing the work making the curry tasty0 -
I think all the tomato based pasta sauces taste the same !Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
