Doctors Fit to work note ( barcode)

Hi, for the first time for many years I had cause to hand in to my employee a fit to work note.I noticed that the note had a 2d square barcode in the bottom corner.
Do employees now as routine scan the barcodes and what information do they give?
I doesn't concern me if it only confirms the information on the note given, but if it gave access to past notes or links to more information then it may.
Can anyone help?

As far as I can see, it only contains the information that is on the note iteself, no access to past records or other information. I found this:
The electronic fit note will:- be easier to read;
- allow easier data collection due to a system-generated barcode, which can be scanned. This barcode:
- cannot be altered once it has been printed by the GP and contains key information from the fit note;
- will enable employers to check that the information it contains matches the information on the computer-completed fit note;
- will allow employers to feed information into the employee record system.

Thanks for your reply Beanie,
Just about what I had found, I had feared it gave access to a sick note data base where past and maybe future notes could be accessed and perhaps compromising patient confidentiality.0 -
