Cheap / free portrait photography (male wanting headshots)

I've been looking into getting some decent professional headshots done (for LinkedIn etc.) and I came across this "Model Experience Volunteer Scheme". (The forum won't let me post a link, but swap the spaces for dots: http //studioblanco co uk/model-experience/)

Don't worry, it's not one of those "you're gorgeous, come in for a 'free' photoshoot" scams that preys on young girls' desires to be models and rips them off for a pricey 'portfolio'. It seems legit: volunteer to model for classes of trainee photographers, get the photos in return.

So my question was: anyone ever done anything like this? Oxford's a bit far for me to go - do you know of any other similar opportunities (art schools with photography courses?) or where I should look to get decent free/cheap photos taken that are better than a selfie with a knackered iPhone? ;-)

(Interested in where to look generally, but for what it's worth I'm in London.)

I'd contact local colleges that do photography courses.

Aha! So, it turns out this is quite a common practice in photography circles known as "time for print" (Google it - there's a Wikipedia page) whereby a "model" trades their time posing for the photographer to do a test shoot (eg. experimenting with new equipment or techniques) in exchange for prints of the shoot.

So now I know what I need to ask for!
