Mortgage Free Life Begins at 40!

Morning All,
I've been a bit rubbish at keeping up with my diary but am still here. Payday was yesterday so I've moved the end of month surplus into my savings. Had a chat with DH over the weekend and he'd prefer we save up and pay off in chunks while our rate is so low so I now need to find somewhere that will pay as much interest as poss but allow me easy access with minimal penalties. I'd still prefer to pay off at the end of each month but it's really not worth us falling out over.
I really am amazed at how much more I have left at the end of the month now I'm really thinking before I spend. I'm finding it very easy to keep myself in check by reminding myself of the life we are working for..."don't sacrifice what you want most for what you want now" is my new mantra!
After the overpayments we made in March - accrued savings and DH's annual bonus, we reckon our balance is down to about £35,500 :j (we only get annual statements and there's no online access to our mortgage account so we can't be absolutely sure). I've used Martin's mortgage calculator and worked out that because we leave our payments the same every time we overpay, our monthly dd should be just under £200 now - but because we're paying £340 we're overpaying a decent amount without even trying :j
I hope you're all doing well and wish you all a wonderful April that brings you closer to your MF goals
Off to catch up on your inspirational diaries now, maybe catch you on other threads! xx"Don't sacrifice what you want most for what you want now"
