Real-life MMD: Should I secretly switch my husband's Shreddies to save cash?
Comments

I suppose it depends a lot on how much money they have, Does buying a box of Sheddies rather than own brand mean not being able to buy a few apples, or does it mean having a little less spending money for that 4th holiday in a year, if the former than carry on deceiving, if the latter then it just isn't worth having a row about.0

yes definitely - maybe you should also swap him?!!0

The wife reckons you could be saving about 60p a box,one a week times 52=£31.20 a year.Do this with ten items and you have a saving of £312,car/house insurance?you choose. This sort of thing has been going on in our house ever since we met, most of the time you can't tell the differance.Certain items are not worth it,e.g.shampoo or washing up liquid as you end up using twice as much to get the same effect.
Make a list of ten items showing him the total savings over a year, then ask if he thinks it's a good idea. After that reveal the shreddies,i bet they'll taste a lot better.:rotfl:0 -
It works with Ketchup too. Just put Tesco's own brand into the Heinz bottle !!0

Another first world problem along the lines of, 'the wine wasn't cold enough' or 'the HDTV takes too long to switch on' A real problem would be not having food for breakfast.0

Secretly swap them for a period of time and keep the money you have saved in a secret place. When there is a substantial amount of money there then do the big own up and give him the money to buy himself something nice, this will show him the value of making a change.
This is quite a nice idea :T,0 -
my OH is a bit of a brand snob, wouldn't even have tried any own brand before we got together. We went crazy and 'talked' about our finances - I claimed we could save money by changing to shop brands and shopping in Ald!. So we have tried different cereals, biscuits, juices, crisps, sauces, including value.
Kelloggs cereal is, as a rule, the nicest. However, aldi cereals are perfectly edible.
Value pasta is dire.
A biscuit is a biscuit.
Value juices and squash are fine.
Aldi fruit and veg are way better than Tesco, but won't last for a fortnight.
'Talk' to the other adults who contribute to your household budget, if you need to save money grocery shopping is a good place to start. Some things are acceptable compromises, some are not.0
