I've got a petrol Octavia vRS (200 BHP) that has the same engine as various Audis and is a fantastic. It has lots of toys inside, is cheap to service, insure and run.

I could have an Audi as a company car but I would rather have the cash and spend it on other things. Various friends have Audis and they are nice cars, one mate has just got a shiny new S4 which is lovely but hell of a price to buy, run and insure.

Sounds like you have got your heart set on an Audi but certainly consider some test drives in other cars.

I'm crazy about cars, but not about loans. Over the years the BEST car I ever owned (for 4 years), cost me £40, and was mostly reliable for 70K miles.

It was a mk2 cavalier SRi with dents.

Brilliant! I love the MK2 Golfs, but trying to insure one, and maintain it would be way out of my reach.

I do like the Skoda too! The only downside is the insurance, they see two figures.. 200BHP and 19 years old! Haha
  • I insured an Audi RS 5 with modifications with only 3 years NCD at a cost of £1300 which I thought was quite reasonable.

We've got a CLK and I love it.

    Get a mobile phone contract
Set up DDs for all credit accounts
    Get a decent bank account
    Join a credit union

Saving up is the Ideal option really, but on the other hand, you miss out on a lot of fun driving it in the time it takes to save! Personally Not that keen on the Audi, went with the intention to buy one a few years ago, and ended up with a newer, more equipped and faster Jag for less money! Completely understand the petrol head mentality though. Nothing better than having a nice fast car/motorbike to keep that smile on your face. Cant remember the last time i had a practical and sensible vehicle to run round in!

Get a Fabia/Ibiza TDI, have a few years playing in that get some experience under your belt and a few years NCD then go for a bigger faster toy. That's pretty much what I did. I love my vRS Octavia, it's not as flashy a badge as a BMW, Merc, Audi but if you have chance take one for a test drive (without the dealer) and see what you think.
