debt with sky

2 years ago we subscribed to sky, then after 5 mths our landlord evicted us and we were homeless. Council put us in temp accomodation anyway we wrote so sky to say we needed to cancel as we cant have sky if were homeless and therefore didnt see why we should pay for 12 mths as in all fairness its beyound out control.

They wrote back saying that as long as we paid £21 for that months sky we could cancel early. However, they then sent us letters threatening to take legal action if we didnt pay for the remained of our 12 mths! I telephoned and wrote and sent copies of their letter agreeing to let us cancel but they still passed our debt onto a debt collection agency. :mad:

They debt collection agency dont have our new address and sky are ignoring our letters so ive gave up writing to them now

Will the debt collectors find us? If they did can they make us pay al the charges? I still have the letter of sky agreeing we can cancel. I did give sky a address to contact us at whilst we were homeless yet they still sent debt collectors to our old address despite knowing we dont live there!

Have you sent copies of the cancellation letter to the debt collectors? When Sky sent the letter saying you could cancel if you paid that month's worth of £21, I'm assuming you paid the month they asked for?

Yeah I paid the month they asked for. Ive not contacted the debt collectors as they dont know where I live but I saw the new tenant few mths ago who mentioned he gets letters off them for us
