It was a temporary agreement.
Praxis have known about this for a year.
Why do you think they deserve special treatment over other charities?I am a Financial Adviser specialising in Mortgages, Protection, Health and Medical Insurance. I also write wills. All information posted on this site is for discussion only, and should not be taken as advice.0 -
I would be annoyed at this happening to any charity that helps vunerable people. Is there any other organizations that help people with these difficulties learn skills in a work enviroment?.I'm not sure would love to know if there is.0

Yes there are others. Praxis were and are doing nothing that hasn't been done elsewhere. Ards Hospital for example have a cafe run along the same lines.I am a Financial Adviser specialising in Mortgages, Protection, Health and Medical Insurance. I also write wills. I think it's not so much the fact they are being asked to leave but more the fact they had spent a LOT of money in upgrading and maintaining the facilities and are now being asked to essentially hand it all over with no form of "compensation" for the money they have spent on the building. Hundreds of thousands I believe in their time there ...0

The whole point of Praxis occupying the building under a license rather than a lease was so they can be removed easily. If Praxis took basic legal advise they would have know that with a license agreement they had no security of tenure.
Spending thousands of pounds on a building where you can be asked to vacate at 30 days notice, a condition you signed up to, is ridiculous.
I don't see why they should be compensated. A standard clause in a commercial agreement to occupy is that you return the building to it's previous state.
Praxis have been occupying the building paying zero rent and rates. They have done quite well.0 -
I tend to agree saverbuyer and I'm a bit concerned that if the NIO / SoS are correct and Praxis were in fact given a year's notice of this move that they did nothing for a year and now appear to be briefing the media to attempt to garner public sympathy and support for their situation.
I have a close family member with a severe learning disability and would have every sympathy for the individuals impacted by this decision however it looks to me very like it is Praxis who have created the problem by failing to use the last 12 months to find suitable alternative premises rather than the NIO who would appear to have been more than reasonable.0 -

I totally agree, whoever is in charge at Praxis, should be held somewhat accountable. Im sure if it was their own money they wouldnt have risked it without the security of a long lease.0
