Buying cheap games

So I only really shop for PS3, but I thought Id let everyone know where I buy games from in the hope it helps others.

I havent bought a game from GAME, HMV or a supermarket etc for well over a year. The below is great for 2nd hand games only, so for new releases I dont think this will help.

Cash Generator - Their online store is good, they regularly have sales and some items have a 'make me an offer' button where you can often get things for lower than list price. Yes you have to pay postage, but the prices on games vary widely as the individual stores set their own prices, as you can see below:
Example 1: Fifa 14 on PS3 ranges from £15-22.99
Example 2: GTA V on PS3 ranges from £14.30-30
As you can see that would be FIFA and GTA for under £30, both go for around £17-22 each on ebay.
I would keep checking the site as new things are added daily and occasionally there is that anomolie where the item is £5 cheaper than any others like it and is in the same condition.

Ebay - Search for 'PS3 games bundle', lots of results of people wanting to get anything from 2 games to 20 games all at once. I have looked at around 25 of these listings and followed them until the end. I found that including postage, these games sold for an average of £2.42 each. So a bundle of 4 games should cost around £9.68 including the postage fee. If you pay more then your paying more than average (which you may have to do if games such as GTA V or FiFa 14 are included, use your own discretion). The thing about bundles is that out of 10 games that costs you say £24.20 (working on average), you may not even want 5 of the games, but they can always be re-sold to friends or back on ebay or via gumtree and you have still got the 5 games you do want for just £2.42 each which is a much better option than paying say £7.99 each at GAME for pre-owned.

Its also ideal for Wii consoles and Wii games, these can be found very cheap across these 2 or even on Gumtree. I bought a Wii, with all the accessories and 5 games on Gumtree for £30. A family of 4 cant even go to the cinema on a saturday night for that! Cheap and fun entertainment and always has a re-sale value

Might be an idea to check your local HMV, 75% off all pre-owned games as they're pulling out the second hand market (again...). I'm very wary of Cash Generator/Converters as they generally don't check them as stringently as I know my local Game does.

The other place to check is Gumtree & at this stage in the game, for PS3/360 I'd even be tempted to check out the local charity shops - although with them they're often unaware of their value & will overprice as a result.

Funny you should mention charity shops. If people can find Gameboys (any model) or other old consoles by Sega or Nintendo, then they all seem to sell pretty well on Ebay, especially gameboys.

Cash Converters I find expensive and you have to create an account to shop online, the only issue I had with Cash Generator was them not being able to find a game I bought and so it wasnt shipped. I got a full refund and a game for the same value free of charge for the trouble.

I haven't tried them for games yet, but their DVD's and CD's are generally in good/very good condition :)

The only real reason I don't use them for games is that I'm a PC gamer, and as such generally have a wide selection of cheaper games anyway (humble bundles and the like are great for stocking up on games), whilst a lot of the big titles tend to be linked to the first online account they're used with (similar to the way some EA 360 titles are).

Having said that I can't remember the last time I paid full price for any PC game, except for a few indie games where the full price was only a fiver or tenner anyway.

Humble Bundles & Steam Sales are dangerous, dangerous things indeed!

Yeah I believe Zoverstocks is Music Magpie, selling the stock they buy off people. They make it impossible for independent sellers on amazon because they always under cut your price by 1p.

For anyone that uses Steam on the PC and buys games through there, take a look at cdkeys.com - they sell the game keys which you put into Steam which will then download the game - I find they can be almost half the price that it is on the official Steam Store.

I bought a 'new' pc game from Game online, last year. It came without cellophane wrap, finger prints on the disc and with their own seal, so I queried this as that presentation is usual for used items.

They insisted that it was new, but had been removed from the packaging in order to display the box in a store. I didn't believe this as they don't do this for cheap games, so returned the item for replacement.

They sent me the same one back (I could tell from a mark on the case), but I decide to keep as it was at a good price.

I get most of my games from Ebay, as amazon delivery costs are high and can't be combined for multiple orders.

Teddysmum - they often do take "cheap" games out the box, particularly around Christmas time when they have temps dealing with them - not unusual to be fair.
