It does not help when the press make Bright house out to be saving the day!

    My favourite quote is
“The basic thing is that the vast majority of them are hard-working, sensible people who are very careful about managing their income. They are pretty savvy.”

    Ummm, savvy!!!
Which part of his quote do you take issue with?
"Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."

The fact that the boss of Bright House is claiming his customers are savvy paying 4 times the retail price for goods, without it being challenged by the newspaper.

You have a fundamental flaw in your logic, your assuming
    .

Well I may have a fundamental flaw in my logic, but at least I know that the high lighted word should be "you're". (Short for 'you are' - get it?)
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

But that's the customer's choice. And dare I say a lot of them are probably tempted by the fact that BH will repair or replace something that goes wrong. How many electrical items last three or four years without a problem?

Like it or not, the majority of BH's customers will budget accordingly and pay on time. BH wouldn't survive as a company if this didn't happen.

Yeah - I know. But you're asssuming everyone has your intelligence and forethought.

No, I'm saying the opposite, that some people don't have forethought, that some people can't manage to forego pleasure now for pleasure later.

I'd go further, and say that the effects of this aren't bad, or even neutral. They are good. It's necessary that poor decisions have negative effects, or else far too many people would be making far more poor decisions, and society as a whole would be far worse off.

The theme on here is more and more becoming that people should not be responsible for their own decisions. I have no idea why people feel this way, but it's morally abhorrent, and I'm very glad that society in general is not yet at the "it's not my fault" state espoused so freely here.

The poor are not screwed at all. They pay little to no taxes, receive generous benefits, and generally wander through life being supported no matter how bad their decisions.

If they then take the decision to go and pay £4,000 for a television, then that is their choice, and they should bear the cost of it.

As opposed to the rich, who pay little to no taxes, receive generous benefits, and generally wander through life being supported no matter how bad their decisions.

It's a crying shame that the poor get screwed whichever way they turn, whether it is prepayment meters for gas and electricity or buying overpriced goods at huge interest rates. It seems that the wealthier you are the less you have to pay for stuff!

If people want to spend money they don't have on things they probably don't need you can't blame a company for making the most of it. We walk past a Brighthouse regularly and they have a washer in the window for almost £600 (Before the high interest rate) I have a good job and savings and I would be very hard pressed to spend £300 on a washer.

Ummm dont the richest 1% pay 16% of all taxes

If somebody wants a big TV and is made then aware of the price and payment term then i fail to see how this decision should concern anyone else

No, that's not correct. The top 1% of earners pay 30% of all income taxes, and most are in the top 1% because they made decisions such as staying on at school, delaying having children, and planning out their career.

Do you genuinely believe that higher earners are not paying higher taxes? Where do you get thse weird ideas from?

I'd rather be dyslexic than an idiot

At least people can still understand and agree with what a dyslexic person says
