Think one of us has got it wrong mate. In tesco I thought it was any items including clothes. Not sure about kiosk though. Aau sort answer out please. :)

I didn't think clothes counted - but then I've always 'played safe' and only used grocery items. Clothes may (or may not) appear on a comp but not count to the 10 items?

According to the T&Cs though, you just need 10 different items. It doesn't say there are any exclusions, though one must be a comparable grocery product (in order to compare, as only the grocery items are compared).

"1. Simply go into any Tesco Extra, Superstore or Metro store (or their attached Petrol Filling Station) and purchase at least 10 Different Items, one of which must be a Comparable Grocery Product (see Definitions below). As soon as you complete your purchase, an immediate price comparison will be processed at the checkout and a Tesco Price Promise receipt will be printed showing your result."

This says nothing about kiosk items:

"Different Items: Items with different product codes, i.e. products that are not identical in size, weight, volume and flavour. For example, two cereal packets of the same size, weight and flavour will not be Different Items, however two cereal packets of the same size and weight, but a different flavour will be Different Items. The following are also not considered as Different Items for the purpose of Tesco Price Promise:
    • any bags for which we charge a fee;
    • any online delivery charges;
    • any item for which there is no charge; and
    • fuel."
This does appear (immediately after the definition of "Different items"), but nothing to say that they don't count as different items just that they're aren't "compared":

Excluded Products: The following products and services are not compared in the Tesco Price Promise:
    • electrical items including electrical health and beauty e.g. hair straighteners, electric toothbrushes, hair dryers,
    • garden e.g. BBQ and garden furniture,
    • home & furniture e.g. bedding, cushions, lighting, sofas and armchairs,
    • entertainment e.g. CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, computer games, books,
    • DIY & car e.g. car maintenance, painting and decorating, hand tools,
    • sports & leisure e.g. cycling, camping, luggage,
    • toys including indoor and outdoor,
    • baby & toddler accessories, e.g. car seats and baby safety,
    • gifts & jewellery,
    • clothing including socks and hosiery,
    • home ware e.g. cooking and dining, water filters, candles, glassware, food storage boxes,
    • batteries,
    • stationery including party accessories, ink cartridges and greetings cards,
    • reusable shopping bags,
    • lightbulbs, plugs and household electrical accessories e.g. adapters, extension leads,
    • items from the kiosk including newspapers, magazines, stamps, tobacco and cigarettes,
    • Tesco telecom, mobile phones and e top up cards,
    • items from the Pharmacy (including non-medicine items such as diabetes and blood pressure kits, travel plugs, travel irons, reading glasses and sunglasses),
    • opticians,
    • beauty centre,
    • cafe,
    • fuel,
    • photo-processing and associated services e.g. photo calendars,
    • in-store concessions e.g. Costa Coffee, Nando’s,
    • online delivery charges, and
    • products purchased online at Tesco Direct, Tesco Wine by the Case, Tesco Clothing (including F&F), Tesco Bank, Tesco Phone Shop and Tesco Travel Store.
That said, there may be something different operating in practice than what is stated in the above theoretical position. It's been drummed into me over years and years, constantly, that things don't always operate according to written rules. So now I assume any written 'rule' is just a theoretical position and nothing ever follows what is written in the rules; if anything, I'd be surprised if it did and I expect it to operate any way except.

Things usually operate more via goodwill than by strict legal rules. So you wouldn't fall back on this but strictly speaking if a term of a contract is ambiguous the meaning most favourable to the consumer is the one that applies. So, on that, you just need 10 different items (ten different barcodes) and doesn't matter at all what any of them is (as none of them are any of the four exclusions from 'Different items').

I now understand - slight change of topic:D - that Sains BM does include branded items that are within 10% weight range of each other, which is unlikely as branded products are usually the exact same weight in each store, and price adjustments are made, although this is not stated in the BM t&cs (indeed, the t&cs expressly state the opposite): http://press.which.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/16-19_SupermarketPriceMatching_R3.pdf at page 19 (also the table on page 17). But that, to me, is just hearsay and leaves open the possibility that it might not work and they then fall back on the written strict t&cs (which I tend to follow to the letter from the first place:(:().

(I may return to that article as part of a more detailed discussion of it, but just referencing it as a source at this moment.)

Sorry, I didn't mean to start a disagreement. :o I'm grateful for all replies and I appreciate that replies have to be tailored to newbies or oldies :) I mainly came here to ask if anyone experienced the same today and if it was a widespread glitch or if was just me.

Savvybuyer, I see your point about items appearing on PP but not counting for it, like the bag re-use. It is a good point and I'm not sure if there is a definitive answer for it.

There is a definitive answer. Bag re-use doesn't count.

    I think (/hope)!:rotfl:

David. The bag for mum was a lovely find but unfortunately code now expired.
Shame as mum would have loved it especially with words from her favourite quote but can'bring myself to pay full price for one.
Luckily I did buy some printable canvas sheets in poundland this week so will design my own and print off and sew on a plain bag instead then I can embroider a bit too.
Need to find a plain cotton bag now.
