    Thanks, Nick. [gives cheeky wink to camera] The word of the day is middin. It's a dialect word, used particularly in the north, which means a dungheap, rubbish tip or dustbin. It comes from the Old Norse 'myki-dyngja'. It has many colloquial uses, including
    - a teenager's bedroom, as in "Get up them stairs and clean your bedroom, young lady, it's a midden!"
    - your team's sports stadium, as in when your team plays your local rivals away from home and loses, or loses the first leg of a two-leg cup tie, "Wait till we get 'em back on our midden!"
    - a certain type of 'bachelor pad' desparately need of some female TLC
