Finally settled down a bit, but wanting a small loan (2-3k)
Hi Everyone.
Bit of a waffle but here goes, Spent a fair few of my younger years in a bit of a whirlwind situation. Things changed when i found out i was going to be a Dad, but it was difficult to adjust to normal ways of life and accept it was time to become a family man, and ended up with a few defaults and a CCJ as a result.
However, underwent a career change from the aircraft industry to the oil industry and although took a hefty pay drop, things are now settled down and steady.
I have a terrible credit rating, although bank account is all in the green and on a semi decent wage of about £31k.
What I'm after doing is getting a new car, nothing stupid expensive, between the 2-4k mark. I have about £1000 saved but was going to look at getting a loan, the CCJ is from the ex girlfriends council tax, even though i had moved out prior to the tax year i ended up with an attachment of earnings, which i paid because i wanted to keep the peace for the sake of my daughter, after changing jobs it has turned out that the last £227 was not paid. that was back in about August 2011 (although i only found out last month) All in all i have about £930 in defaults and this CCJ, which is the last "Bad mark" to be put on my file.
Although equifax isnt showing a CCJ and is only showing 1 Default
I'm basically after any advice on the best way to go about possible lending, or wether its not worth bothering and just try to save the rest myself.
I understand that if it is at all possible then ill be paying a much higher interest rate than the average person. I have no credit cards, loans or any other forms of credit currently active. Only the defaults and CCJ.
I've tried asking my Mum and Dad for advice but the only feedback i've had is "someone will lend you the money but you'll just have to pay more than normal people" I understand there is guarantor loan companies but i really dont want to be looking at that route.
Just a simple enough loan which will get me a car that is capable of doing the 800 mile round trip every other weekend to see my daughter and that will show on my credit report that i'm now more responsible at managing my finances is all i'm after.
Any pointers/advice/telling me how stupid i must have been is greatly appreciated.
Regards
Steve

Any loan is going to be at a stupid rate of interest. I would suggest saving up.0

Please understand that £2-3k is NOT a small loan. It's quite a large loan. When you don't have any money, even £2-300 is a large amount of money. When you understand that, then perhaps you will be able to manage your money in a better way."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
