Minecraft mods - where do you get them?

Hi all,

Little lad at home is a Minecraft fanactic and he's asked me to download some mods for him. Been searching the various pages but not sure which site I can trust for decent, safe downloads of mods.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I am a huge fan of http://www.technicpack.net/

Lots of pre-made modpacks on their launcher that have enormous support and are great fun. Currently playing Tekkit (technology, machines, space race), but have also really enjoyed Hexxit (adventure, exploration, fighting bosses for epic loot). Loads more on there that I've not even looked at.
