Company in administration = no prize.

Today is the 3rd time I have been told that I will not get a prize because of a company going into administration.
I know it's not the company's fault and I do feel very sorry for them but I just get a bit disappointed when I'm told I've won something then to be told later that I can't have it.
I think I must be unlucky for it to happen to me 3 separate times.

that is unlucky , no doubt the tide will turn and you'll have 3 winers where you get the prize

but at least now can you let us know what comps you've entered, just in case

Thanks, the first one was through a magazine and the prize was from Focus.
The second one was Punkyfish, they went into administration but have now started up again, they won't honor the prize though as they say they are a different company now.
The third was from the Magicfreebies postbox on facebook which I won last September, it was a prize from Baumatic and as they have gone into administration they say there is nothing they can do.

Oh Dear - they always say bad luck comes in threes - so hopefully you have had 'your wack' as they say!

Liquidation almost certainly means you will not get a prize, but administration shouldn't automatically mean no prize. A company in administration is a going concern - the administrator will be hoping to sell it so they don't want to upset people and give the company a bad name. Don't forget that many prizes come from a third party anyway, so if they have your details they may still send it. It could also be the third party supplier that goes into administration and the company running the comp may try and supply an alternative prize.

I had a WEM from Blockbuster for a box set on the day before they went into administration. Three and a half months later the prize turned up in the post! I regularly post comps for a site where the company has been in administration twice in the last five years with no known effect on the supply of prizes.

The magazine running the Focus comp told me there was nothing they could do and I had a letter from whoever was dealing with the administration for Focus basically saying the same.
Punkyfish did not want to know just said they were a different company now and could not fulfill my order.
I won the prize with Baumatic through Magicfreebies last September and they have told me there is nothing they can do.
So I don't think it's looking too good unfortunately.

matphil I have never used Magic Freebies but just went on and had a look at their general competitions Ts and Cs. One of them says: "If an advertised prize is not available, we reserve the right to offer an alternative prize of equal or greater value."

It says they 'reserve the right' to do so, rather than that they will. But I think it would be worth going back to them to point this out - if they don't substitute prizes, what's the point in having this in your Ts and Cs? It's the prize supplier who has gone into administration, not them. IMO as the promoter, they should be providing you with an alternative prize. You could try contacting the IPM for advice if they are still adamant they won't send you anything.
