Skipton Mortgage

Hi

Was wondering if anyone has had experience with Skipton for a mortgage.

My husband and I put in a joint application for a mortgage of £165,000 with Skipton ( 27th of Feb) We have a 10% deposit. We had around £8500 in credit card debit and a personal loan which we have been able to pay off. This has been indicated on our mortgage application.

My husband credit rating seemed fine. I had three late payments ( two on my mobile phone and one of a shopping account) the last issue was in Jan 2012. This was coming up as two months of late payment but was an confusion with O2 which was sorted as soon as I realised there was a problem

Skipton has asked for explanations on the late payments. I had to explain that two of the late payments was 100% my fault. That I did not appreciate how long was needed for the funds to clear so ended up being a day or two late. I also explained the misunderstanding with O2.

Is it normal for Skipton to query something like this? Will this put our application back to the begining of the queue to be looked at?

Sorry if this post is rambling and hope it makes sense to somebody. Am just very very worried. Will be so frustrating if one mistake costs me my dream home

I can only comment if you submitted an application via a broker rather than direct but im assuming its the same.

Once you have had your case looked at you will be assigned an underwriter. So it will go to the back of their queue, i think typically its taken them around 3-5 days to look at things at the minute.

They will ask for an explanation in some cases. Im assuming you have passed the DIP otherwise it would not go through to an underwriter. Their underwriters in the main are quite helpful and friendly people.

the fact they are asking for an explanation is a good thing, look at it in a positive light - if they were going to decline your application they would do. They would not be asking for further info from you, so they are wanting to accept it subject to everything being ok.

  • Thank you for your quick reply. We did receive the decision in principal and we have done this through a broker.

Will just be a case of waiting with fingers crossed until a decision has been made.

Me and my OH are currently going through the application process with skipton and it seems to be taking an age.
Our DIP was given on the 25th Feb and the full application submitted by our broker on the 2nd March, we're still waiting to hear back from them and for them to organise our survey.

The wait is driving me mad!!

Its not taking 7 working days to look at documents. I reckon your broker has done the application and submitted documents a few days later. It doesnt hit the queue until documents are uploaded or sent them documents but not everything they needed.

This was our suspicion too but our broker has told us that it's all been submitted

Are we able to call Skipton directly and ask them if they have everything?

    I think so yes.

To be honest i have done that where i submitted an application was told it would take 3 days to look at so only sent the documents 2 days later, it then meant 3 days from when i uploaded the documents - thats the only reason i know about that... you live and learn.

You were right, our documents weren't submitted until Wednesday 5th. Skipton just told me we should expect an answer tomorrow or Thursday. I hate waiting :(
