Aldi - Coffee

  • I am very particular about my coffee so perhaps I will stick to what I know and like. Ordinarily, have been impressed by ALDI. Started off with a basket on my first few shops and now progressed to a small trolley!

To add on to my earlier post, I have to say I am the worlds biggest fuss pot when it comes to food and a complete self confessed snob when it comes to coffee and coffee so far is the only thing I have found I cannot get from Aldi, I do not do processed anything and everything else has been fantastic, We do our full weekly shop their now not found myself going near the big supermarkets for anything for weeks now.

The one I like the best and it is nowhere near the most expensive, in fact it is quite cheap compared to some is Lavazza Super Crema but I have to buy the beans and grind them myself at home otherwise it tastes completely different and I am not so fond of it. I find it a great all rounder, makes lovely espresso with a gorgeous crema layer, works great in latte's and I have even used it in the drip machine and cafetiere it just seems to work well every way. Currently buying 1kg of beans for around £14ish delivered so as said nowhere near "top of the tree". I will have the red Lavazza from the supermarket if that is all that is on offer, not a fan of illy and have no time at all for any of these "pod" machines. I find coffee is a very personal thing and the price of it rarely gives you a guide as to how well it is going to taste.

I was a member of Pact Coffee Club for a while, google them they do an offer on the first 250g bag for a quid then it is £6.95 per delivery, there were some I enjoyed and some I did not so still ended up back with my old faithful Lavazza Super Crema :)

I rarely do instant, at a push I can "get down" lol Nescafe Alta Rica or Kenco blue but, well, it is not coffee really is it? How can it be, it is processed to death and you end up with this black looking liquid, with plenty of sugar they go down but would much rather have a proper cup.

thanks ill order a bag from pact later ive just been on the site.
ive tried the lavazza red, but don't recall seeing the super crema, (is that just in beans) I don't grind due to space as I live in a caravan. I do like the illy red or black but its a bit pricey and for half the price I dont notice much difference in the taylors espresso 5 so that's what im currently enjoying.

If you aren't a 'fuss pot' about your coffee (sorry underpressure), then I use the Alcafe Italian Blend ground coffee in my cafetierre. I cant be the only one as the Italian Blend disappears out of the box first. next would be the French blend. I don't like the Metro one.

my OH likes those huge jars of Alcafe Instant Granules Rich Roast. I wouldn't know - I don't drink it.
my DD claims she only likes Nescafe - but she drinks this without complaint!
  • Have tried all Aldi instant and can't drink it ( gravy granules !!). Do agree that the Italian ground coffee is quite nice and comparable to Lavazza ( which Lidl had on offer for £10 1kg of beans last week ). .
