    i think that would be a reasonable policy, if they actually declared it. it's the absence of a declared policy that's a problem.

    what if they reduce it to £1m, and fail to index it for a few years? how long might that continue before they decided it was too low in real terms? what if you take benefits just before they realize the LTA is now too low in real terms, so they'd better increase it by 50%?
