I have one of the originalish ones (but with HDMI) that a friend gave me a 10GB hard drive a long time ago, disk is getting fuller and fuller anyone know what sort of cost I should be looking out for a new one 250GB?
And also is there a way to check that if till work/fit in my existing X Box?

I bought a 250gb HDD for my 'old style' 360 recently, got it on Amazon (although when I bought it I seem to think it was around £42 but it's gone up slightly) Link:

One thing that might be worth being aware of if you are on a budget or just want a bit more space is that you can use a USB Stick as a Hard Drive. This was brought in with one of the firmware updates a couple of years ago.
You can use any USB Stick/Thumb Drive but the minimum size is 1Gb and the maximum supported size is 32Gb.
To use it put the USB Drive in one of the (many) USB ports (two on the front and there are a couple on the back too) and in the XBOX Menu's navigate to Settings then System and choose storage. You can then select configure the USB as a Storage Device. This takes a few seconds.
Pretty certain it works exactly as if it were an actual hard drive.
Be aware that this formats the USB Stick to be used with an XBOX 360 so if you want to use it on a PC again you will need to format it again.
However thought this worth mentioning as if you don't need loads and loads of extra space it is a much cheaper option. You may already have a spare 8Gb, 16Gb or 32Gb USB drive lying around the house. Alternatively you can pick up a 32Gb USB drive online for about £10 at sites like Ebuyer (and get cashback too). Or get a micro 16Gb one for about a fiver which you won't even realise is in the machine!
Just thought I'd mention it as it is a cheap and easy option and if you have a spare drive lying around the house then it won't cost you anything (in the meantime this means if you do decide you want a hard drive that you can take your time to find a bargain!)0
