  • My hubby is on a 4yr DAS. Still 2 yrs to go. His DAS was arranged through the local councils, Money Matters. Check if your local council has one too. They saved us literally and yes you will be left sufficient to live on. Goodluck..

Desperado put your numbers in on the debt remedy tool at Stepchange

    http://www.stepchange.org/Debtremedy.aspx

It's a bit like the SOA you just did, and this gives you a good idea what your budget would be with a DMP.

I was like you, wanting to keep my credit rating intact and payoff my debts, but after trying to snowball for 3 years my debt was still going up.

I'm just starting with Stepchange for a DMP and am actually pleased the credit it going, it's the mindset you need to get the spending under control, you can only spend what you have. I've had one phonecall so far and the creditor was as nice as pie, everything else has been done is writing and my creditors are just starting to agree to the plans and freezing interest. I'm not saying they will all be like this, but on every letter I've sent I just say, do not phone, I will only communicate in writing.

Hopefully 4 1/2 years I'll be straight, won't be able to borrow and can live my life as I should be doing, not as a slave to the financial system (my fault I know, but they don't help with rate jacking when interest rates are at a record low)

    We're not a bad bunch here :D

It's important, this community. We've all been in a position of feeling lost with our debts and our finances and it's having the experience, or simply support, of others who have been in the same position that gives you the fight to get through it. And you will get through it.
It all takes time and time is money,
money talks and talk is cheap.

  • Most of us have been through it all before, more than once, and understand how easy it is for debt to spiral out of control.

Don't panic, don't rush into anything and you'll get through it. It's the best feeling in the world once you're in control!!

Please look at the trust deed website listed above, you can get free advice about scottish trustdeeds and DAS scheme from professionals who will make sure you are not ripped off, if you need any reccomendations PM me
be VERY careful about signing up for a trust deed with any of the companies that advertise on the web or in the press, there are a lot of horror stories about equity and crazy payment shedules

    Hello there,

We have a useful fact sheet outlining the DAS process, you can find it here:

    https://www.nationaldebtline.org/S/factsheets/Pages/22%20SCOT%20Debt%20Arrangement%20Scheme%20%28DAS%29/Default.aspx

You can find a local money adviser who can help you ste up a DAS via this Government website:

    http://dasscotland.gov.uk/

Please be aware that there are commercial DAS providers that may charge you for their services.

    Best wishes,

    David @ NDL.
