I thought that I would give everybody an update of my job situation. After a number of interviews i received an offer for employment.
I was asked to give two references, one from my last employer. So I put down my last employer as my boss from my loss leading job and then provided a friend as another reference. I was also asked to provide who I had worked for, over the last five years. Which meant that I had to state Dave's Motors.
These references were provided to a third party HR company who i have been in contact with me with regards to various aspects but never in relation to Dave's motors. As it has been a number of weeks since I started, I believe that Dave's Motors have just confirmed that I worked between date X and date Y. However I am aware that at any point, if anybody has discovered why I lost my previous job, then I could lose my current job.
As I have stated previously, the whole point of this story is to give hope to people who are suffering and maybe some ideas. Good luck to anybody who is in the same situation, and if you keep on trying and your willing to work hard then things will start to change and a job will come your way.0 -
I'm sorry but the worry that my new employer would find out about my previous dismissal and dismiss me AGAIN would just not be worth the risk. I was honest and found full time employment quite quickly....yes at a much reduced salary but it's a good job and feel very lucky to have it.0

The credibility of your entire post hinges on what your "big mistake" was.
So what was it?0 -
I'm puzzled that they had him work his 30 days notice - usually it is escorted out of the building Friday afternoon with 5 mins to clear the desk.
Unless his last month was sweeping-up and sorting buttons presumably they still trusted his competency even though he knew he was likely to be sacked...sounds very odd to me.0 -
I am going through the disciplinary process in the Civil Service. They have stated in their policy that will put down I have been dismissed for Gross Misconduct. If I put in for resignation, then my reference will say I left during formal disciplinary procedures. I have worked there for 15yrs so it will be hard for me to leave out if my CV. Could someone recommend any agencies? as suggested in previous posts or PM me some good agencies.0

You've already started a thread asking this question, there's no need to resurrect an old one just to ask the same thing again. if you aren't getting the responses you want on your original thread that'll be because nobody has the answers you hope for.0

Forgiveable if the advice was accurate and reliable but it isn't. Also, you have to have references - often a DBS check - to volunteer (I know my stuff, I work in the HQ of a national charity) so if you're a wrong'un they don't put vulnerable people at risk.0 -

I'm currently on suspension with full pay for allegations made against myself and another staff member. I'm petrified that if I lose my job I will struggle to get into employment. However it's more to do with my references as it will state on their that I have been suspended whilst on investigation, I also work part time and volunteer so my idea is if unfortunately I do find myself been dismissed that I don't have to use this work place for a reference I can use 2 to 3 other references from my part time job and my volunteering. Is this a good idea?!?! I'm sos tuck I don't know what to do I just don't want it to bite me in my butt down the line. I won't be lying about my references just don't know what path to take help!!!!0

I stopped after reading.... after not deciding to appeal.
You should always appeal regardless.0
