Job interview tips

I think you just have to be very loud and really really extroverted and confident etc. Job interviews are like big brother auditions nowadays in my experience, lol.
I'm a bit gutted for my friend who always does loads of research into the companies he's interviewing for, but who always get's told that he wasn't confident enough in the interview when he asks for feedback as to why he was rejected.0 -
Not sure if loud and extroverted is a requirement but showing confidence and positivity is

That depends, I suppose, on whether you are aplying for a job waiting in TGI Friday's or as a neurosurgeon.0 -
Thanks again for the input everyone, I got an email from the lady arranging the interview and she named the people who are in on the interview, I recognised one of them and I have crossed his path once before just over 4 years ago now. I'm not sure if he will remember me, but I remember he seemed like a nice guy at the time.
I'd imagine it will be very business like, so I'm not planning on being too loud or extroverted, hopefully I'll get the balance right.0 -
Have you seen on strike-jobs? you can find a lot of useful tips for facing an interview, such as how to reduce job interview stress, about the body language and more
!
Hope this helps :beer:0 -
I hadn't heard of that, thanks very much for making me aware of it.

Something I've been wondering about is, when asked by the interview panel "Do you have any questions for us?" Would it be an idea to have a small piece of paper in my pocket with any questions I've thought of beforehand or should I rely on my memory.
I've never done this before, it could be seen as good preparation or they might think if I can't remember some basic questions it maybe isn't a good sign...Opinions?0 -
I always used to prepare 3 or 4 well choosen and as relevant as possible questions before each interview, memorised them rather then look at notes to be honest (notepad for when you get job)
I know this isn't a tip but if you can secretly record the interview so much the better, I'd gotten to the point I just wanted to take in a jezza lie detector! alright I'll stop being silly now but this image has just made me giggle, cheers!0 -
For me an interview is not a nerve wracking experience, although I understand how it is for others.
My main tips are:
Arrive early (go the day before so you know exactly how to get there!)
Be smart and presentable
Take your time when answering questions - don't just blurt out the first thing that comes into your head.
Ask if you are unsure over a question. I'd rather give you the right answer the first time round!
Lastly, I do like to ask the following question at the end of an interview:
Is this a new role, or is it replacing someone else? If so, why did they leave?0 -

So I had the interview yesterday, part of me thinks it quite well but I'm not sure, there were parts of it which make me cringe when I think back. It was very serious and business like, even more than I expected, something I wish I'd asked but forgot was if there was more than one position on offer, they are paying for my travel to and from the interview location (equivalent of a 2nd class rail fare). So they wouldn't have got me in if they hadn't been interested in me. They kept their cards very close to their chest so I don't have any clue if they were interested in me.
I should hear sometime next week so fingers crossed!0
