Do people still go on 'dates'?

I caught a program called 'first dates' the other day. Quite funny.
The show films people in a restaurant which is full of people who are on a 'date' - meeting each other for the first time.
Got me thinking, though.
Do people still go on 'dates'?
I'm nearly 30. I've never had a 'date'.
I'm not a good example though, as girls don't tend to go for me much, and I don't have confidence so a date would be torturous.
I've only had 1 relationship, and we knew each other from school and bumped into each other in a bar years later, and she pounced on me.
However, I have quite a few friends who are always having sex with different girls, and other friends who are in proper relationships, but none of them went on a 'date' as such before getting together.
I only ever see people going in 'dates' in the movies!
With everyone i've ever known, it's pretty much always a case of falling into a relationship after a random one-night-stand in a club. Sometimes having sex with a work colleague at the workplace itself.
There's not a 'date' to get to know each other with the intention of possibly getting into a relationship.
Someone told me that the whole thing is old fashioned.
And that, if a girl doesn't think you're hot, she won't go on a date with you anyway. If she thinks you're hot, there's no point in going on a date, as you're already 'in'
I'm just curious, really.

I'm 30, been with my partner for over 5 years and we still do date nights. Prior to that I went on dates even if it was just for a drink in the pub. So yeah I think it's still alive and well.0

Of course people go out on dates! That might not be what they call them, but that's what they are. At least in the circles I move in.0

My husband and I go on dates (or did before I got pregnant...and hopefully will soon once I am no longer sick all the time!). And we went on dates when we first met before we were officially together.0

I think they're great. Never occurred to us before to do them. We'd just get in from work knackered and not have any quality time to spend together. If we did end up going out it would be for someone else's special occasion. It's nice to be able to put that time aside for each other.0 -
Yea course we do:D"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

When I met my hubby 10 years ago, my sons living with me were 9 and 12; his kids were the same age. We never had the luxury of that much time alone but have probably had more 'dates' in the last couple of years, if by that it means a chance to go out together just having a chance to unwind, talk over a meal or drink, go to the pictures, go to the theatre etc. We're having a Sunday lunch date tomorrow0

Me and hubby are off out tonight for a meal at a nice restaurant in town, I'd call it a date...
If it was with one of my girlfriends I'd say I'm off out for meal with xyz, but as it's hubby I'm not sure why I'd say we're off out on a date..Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
This sounds like my work place....would you by chance be in retail? XDPeople don't know what they want until you show them.0

I met OH 2 years ago and we officially started our relationship after 2 dates. Prior to meeting each other we were both dating (usually dinners/coffee dates/drinks in a bar).0

Yes, I think internet dating led to an increase in dating rather than people relying on pulling in a pub or club.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
