Toilet Bowl Stains - perhaps Caustic Soda?

Hi
I am after a way of removing toilet bowl stains.
I've heard that Caustic Soda could help but I'd like to know the portion sizes and whether it takes a few goes.
Can anyone help or suggest some other way to remove stains? I'll need to know portions so I don't waste it or cause an explosion.
Thanks
Jason

Best thing I have tried is white vinegar.
Empty the bowl as much as you can and tip in several bottles of white vinegar. Live for many hours, scrub with brush or cloth remembering to wear gloves.
Flush.
If its really bad it may take a few goes.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
No, because limescale is an alkali and caustic soda is an alkali
To remove limescale you need an acid based cleaner.

Do not mix different types of cleaner in the toilet.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Sterilising tablets. Cheap, safe and they work.
Simply drop one down the pan and leave for as long as possible.0 -
Scale is shifted with acid.
Descaling toilet cleaners in liquid and tablet form are available, also vinegar can be used and left overnight.
If, like me you have a family with a building background, then concentrated hydrochloric acid in the form of plumbers' spirits of salts may be available.
FGS, don't mix this or any other type of acidic cleanser with bleach as you will get some idea of what the WWI soldiers went through in the trenches - chlorine gas and plenty of it. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I have read somewhere recently that you should avoid caustic soda if you have plastic pipes in the house as the chemical action produces enough heat to melt the pipes. I haven't tried it, needless to say!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Coke! 2 litres tipped into bowl and left overnight. Layer loo roll onto sides if that's where problem is.
Harpic white, or the power thing they do are also good for deposits and staining.

Second the coke, tip it in and leave overnight. Sparkly and clean in the morning and the reason I won't drink the stuff!0

Do try coke, even value stuff works. I keep a bottle for lots of things, fab for shifting greasy stains on clothes too. Drop a penny in it overnight and you'll see just how acidic it is.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

to second this - Caustic Soda gives off a terrific amount of heat when it gets moist - used to be a lab. technician in a previous life hence my knowledge!
FWIWI use bleach block (parazone) in the loo cistern and they cut down beautifully on the mould/mildew!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
