I know it used to be possible to make contributions and have them considered for a previous tax year. Is this sort of thing still possible?
eg: This coming tax year I might creep into the 40% band. If I do I'd be inclined to chuck sufficient into the pension to fully utilise the extra tax relief. However I won't know if I breached the 40% band until the self assessment calculations some months after the end of the tax year.

Thank you, that's a bit annoying, I'll just have to do the sums as best as possible in the Jan/Feb before the end of the tax year and make my best guess at how much money to chuck at it.IANAL etc.0
