Loaf tin help please

I'm wondering if it's possible to buy a loaf tin that will give me the same shape as a loaf bought from the supermarket, as my bread won't go in the toaster at work?
I'm using 2lb tins at present, which make my loaves come out as mushrooms.
Regards
Chris.

Are you sure it's not the thickness of your cutting? What shape are you currently using?
You can pick up a bog standard loaf tin at wilkos or any other supermarket.0 -
If your loaf is coming out mushroom shaped then I imagine it's rising much higher than the tin and cascading over the sides a bit to make the mushroom shaped?
Yes, it will do that if you use too much dough for the tinYou had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -

I'm slicing as thinly as possible to get as many slices as I can, its more to the fact that my loaves think they're mushrooms. :rotfl:Lovelyjoolz wrote: »If your loaf is coming out mushroom shaped then I imagine it's rising much higher than the tin and cascading over the sides a bit to make the mushroom shaped?

I am only using 500g of flour to a 2lb tin, would you recommend splitting the mixture into two 2lb tins instead?YNAB is my new best friend.0 -
Ah, the old 2lb loaf tin, that isn't dilemma! I know exactly what you mean, the 2lb loaf tins you buy all over the place just don't make 2lb loaves, more like 1lb loaves.
In the end I measured a shop loaf of bread and searched for tins the same size, all those so called 2lb tins were nowhere near big enough, I can't imagine what you're meant to put 2lb of in one, but they certainly don't make 2lbs of bread.
I looked on ebay for the split tin type I got but I couldn't find it, the dimension of it are 11" long, 4" wide and 3" deep to give you a rough idea of the size you need.
You can get one of these if you want a truly square loaf

For a farmhouse style you need one of these http://bakerybits.co.uk/bakery-equipment/tins-trays-and-cases/bread-tins/2lb-or-900g-seamless-aluminium-loaf-tin.html
Hope that helps.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I was going to say, what you need is a Pullman tin, but I see that Peachyprice has linked to one on ebay.0

I was looking at bread tins because I had the same problem when making a brioche, it just raised too tall for the 2lb loaf tin I used.
These bread tins are deeper than the standard loaf tins.

This one is bigger than the standard 2lb tins so the bread won't rise as much. This is the one I bought but have not had time to try yet.
