Hours being reduced

Hello,
I'm just on my holiday till Monday and Ive received a text message from my employer that he needs to cut my hours due shop I work in doesn't do well. I work 4 days a week 9 hours per day. He wants me to work now 6,5 hours a day. What are my rights? He needs to me a notice, right? And letting me know while I'm on my holidays and through a text message...I think that is unacceptable. He never gave me a written contract, I have to ask for my wage every month so I get paid on time, he hasn't paid for my holiday Ive taken in february. Which I talked to him and he will sort it out in my march wages. Basically I have to ask for everything I'm entitled to. Please help.
Thank you

How long have you worked there?

You're right that finding out by text is not a good way of notifying people of changes to employment.

The shop you work in, is it a chain of shops, or just a single enterprise run by one person? How long have you worked there?

It sounds like a sole trader is running the shop and if the shop is not making very much money, or losing out on trade then you may have to accept the cut in hours. The alternative is that he closes and you have no hours whatsoever.

I would ask for a contract to be drawn up. He does owe you holiday as this is a legal entitlement.

The shop is a single enterprise run by one person. I understand the business is not doing well, but I don't think it's fair he notifies me like this. Does he needs to give me a notice?
    Thank you

Do you have anything in writing which says explicitly what your hours are?

If not, yes he can change them. The text is sloppy, but not illegal and with only 6 months employment he can fire you for any reason too, so worth considering before making too much of a fuss.
Are you able to discuss this with him face to face?

I have nothing in writing. I might be able to discuss this with him face to face when I'll get back from my holiday. I'm looking for new job right now, as I won't be able to survive on those hours. Thank you
